Support the Library

As a community organization, the Baxter Memorial Library relies on the involvement of our friends, patrons and Gorham residents. If you appreciate the services we provide, there are many ways that you can support the work of the library.

Participate

Become a volunteer or join the Friends of Baxter Memorial Library

Volunteers do many things to help us keep the library running smoothly, from shelving books to craft projects to gardening. To learn more about volunteering, call us at 207.222.1190 or ask at the front desk. Please consider joining the Friends of Baxter Memorial Library. This membership association supports the library through programming, fundraising and volunteerism. [Learn more about the Friends of Baxter Memorial Library]

Occasionally there are vacancies on our nine-member Board of Trustees. The Board is appointed by the Town Council. If you are interested in finding out more about being a Trustee, please contact our Library Director James Rathbun.

Donate

Donate Books

If you would like to donate your used books to the library, please bring them to the front desk during regular library hours. When book donations arrive, we evaluate the condition, age and content of the books to determine their appropriateness for our collection. If for any reason we decide not to add the books to the library, they will be offered for purchase to the public during the annual Friends of Baxter Memorial Library Book Sale. We are unable to accept donations of textbooks, encyclopedias or Reader’s Digest condensed sets.

AmazonSmile

Through the AmazonSmile program, you can designate the Baxter Memorial Library Association to receive (as a donation) 0.5% of the price of all Amazon purchases you make. Your purchase costs remain the same, and there’s no need to bookmark any long URLs or remember any codes–just click this link or follow the instructions at smile.amazon.com to sign up.

CLYNK Bags

Stop by the circulation desk for a CLYNK bag to donate the funds from your redeemable bottles to the library.

Monetary donations and bequests

Past and present donors have given us the means to purchase books, furniture, shelving and other important and appreciated items. Our Library Director, James Rathbun, can answer any questions you have about making a financial gift to the library. [Read our Gift Policy]

Advocate

Our patrons are our ambassadors to the community. If you love your library, say it loud and say it proud! Tell your friends about the fantastic books and movies you checked out at the library. Tell your neighbors how much fun you had with your kids at Story Time. Tell the Town Council members how much you appreciate library services and programs. If you want to ensure that your library survives for years to come, help spread the word about what we have to offer. YOU are our strongest advocate!
