DESCRIPTION:Join us for a unique experiential art program and trip for all ages with Baxter Memorial Library!\n\nPresented in collaboration with the University of Southern Maine\, the Greater Portland METRO\, and the Portland Museum of Art!\n\nWe will start at the library with an introductory art appreciation lecture from USM Art Education Faculty Sarah Warshaw and Mary Ledue-Bell. Denise Beck of the Greater Portland Metro will follow with an overview of how to ride the bus. We will ride as a group on the METRO Husky Line to the Portland Museum of Art\, with free admission and a Museum Educator-led tour of the collections. Please register for this program: https://forms.office.com/r/aL0SY723h0\n\nImportant notes:*To participate in the trip\, you must be able to traverse up to half a mile at a time\, for nearly two miles of outdoor movement on this trip. We will be walking from Baxter to the bus stop at Water and Main\, and then from the METRO stop to the Portland Museum of Art. Each segment of the trip is just under half a mile.*You are responsible for your own bus fare. METRO fare is $2 for adults\, $1 for youth\, veterans\, and seniors. If the bus fare is a hardship\, please contact the library. METRO can accept cash\, bus passes\, or UMO app payments.*The lecture\, museum admission\, and museum tour are completely free.

DESCRIPTION:During a six-week\, 7\,000-mile journey across the state\, Israeli photographer Hedva Rokach photographed more than 300 members of Maine’s Jewish community. Faces & Facets of Jewish Life in Maine brings together these portraits alongside personal stories and QR-code–linked video interviews\, offering a vivid and deeply human portrait of Jewish life across Maine today. The book serves as the companion publication to the Maine Jewish Museum exhibition There Is Always an & and is available through the Museum Shop. \nDawn LaRochelle is the Executive Director of the Maine Jewish Museum and the creative force behind the Ampersand Project. A lifelong storyteller\, community builder\, and advocate for dialogue across difference\, she has helped expand the Museum’s role as a resource for Maine Jewish history\, culture\, and art through collaborative partnerships and statewide programming. Dawn brings extensive experience in program curation\, nonprofit leadership\, and relationship-building\, along with a deep belief that narrative can open hearts\, foster belonging\, and inspire cross-cultural understanding.
